Those early days of motherhood can be a blur, but very quickly you figure out the things that you Could.Not.Survive.Without. The 5 absolute must haves of the early days were:
1. Breast Accessible Maternity Nightwear
Feeding overnight up to 4 or 5 times. I’m exhausted just remembering it! A comfy nightie is a must. I love how pretty but functional Sorella Organics Nightwear is, plus it’s easy to stash a breast pad in to absorb the extra milk that a crazy, milk-producing body makes. Oh, and they’re lacy and pretty, which is obviously very important. Sorella Organics Nursing Nightie $89.95
2. Water – and lots of it.
The Thirst! I needed a bottle nearby at all times. Next to the bed, near my comfy feeding pozzie on the couch. Wherever I was feeding I would rehydrate with litres of water. Feeding mummies are as thirsty as fish! Kor Water Bottle from $19.95
3. All Purpose Muslin Swaddles
The most multi purpose of all the baby items purchased. My muslin swaddles were used as feeding covers, burping cloths, pram covers, floor rugs. Plus they’re a fashion item! Check out the range of beautiful muslins at The Little Linen Company. $44.95 for a 4 pack.
4. Hydrogel Breast Pads
Not going to lie. My nipples were excruciating for a while there. But some hydrogel feeding discs in the fridge were just the ticket. These Mothers Mates Hydrogel Feeding Pads relieved the agony while my nipples toughened up to the task of feeding my hungry bub. $19.95
5. Baby Nightgowns
They look old fashioned but old fashioned sometimes works! A newborn nightgown makes night changes a doddle. No zips, buttons or fasteners, you can whip them up and change baby quickly. Carters does some really lovely ones that are soft and wash really well. Around $19.95 for a two pack.
