Remember when a cot was just a square box with rails? Times have really changed and as parents we’re now offered unique pieces of furniture that wouldn’t look out of place at a modern art gallery.
Beautiful natural wood finishes, soft curves, and clear sides (genius!), paired with gorgeous linens make for a stunning modern space for your wee babe.
But how to choose when there’s so much on offer? My picks for the best of the mods goes like this:
Hands down, this is my fave. Beautifully curvaceous with a mix of natural wood, clear perspex and metal feet, the Pod looks stunning. Designed by these clever Australian parents, the pod is drawing rave reviews from all over the world. It doesn’t have a drop side (though it is a lower height…) so it might not be the choice for everyone, but I love that it converts to a toddler bed when bubs is ready for the next stage.
The hugely popular Leander is still one of the most popular choices as a statement nursery item. In White Wash (a light wood finish), White and Walnut it’s got an adjustable base and it converts to the most adorable toddler bed (my favourite toddler bed, in fact).
Stokke has been making exclusive and beautiful nursery furniture since 1932 and the Sleepi cot has become an iconic baby bed. Coverting to four different beds, it’s a mini cot for newborns, a standard cot, then a toddler bed and junior bed lasting up until your tiny babe is a big 10 year old.
I love the mix of dark and white woods in this lovely cot from Bloom. With a drop side it’s great for little shorties like me and I am totally in love with the matching dresser (which wouldn’t look out of place in my bedroom!) Take a squizz at their website as cots and dressers are just the beginning of this clever companies cool offerings.
Another totally mod creation from Ubabub, the Nifty is a popular choice for Australian mums and dads with their eye on design. Again the clear sides are a standout, and the feet – it’s a 60’s Scandinavian feel that’s totally unique in the baby cot world.
With circle carved panels in both ends and a high gloss finish, this cot is simple, modern and practical. It comes in Dark ash or light ash with the white contrast and has beautiful accessorising furniture to match. It’s a toddler bed when the time is right, so you’ll be able to enjoy this pretty piece in the nursery for longer.
My word, this is something else isn’t it!? I just had to include this amazing piece. It’s for the very brave and for those looking to add a Starck-esque feel to their nursery. Word on the street is Blue Ivy (Beyonce and Jay Z’s bub) has this one in her nursery!
Which is your favourite?
