GETTING TO KNOW…GLASS BABY BOTTLES

glass baby bottle the baby consultant

Everything old is new again… especially when it comes to Glass Baby Bottles.  When my little ones were weaned but still taking a bottle I used glass and really liked how the worry of BPA was eliminated.

I am assured by my mother that I was super attached my my glass baby bottle as a littlie and it was VERY difficult to wean me off it (a little like my nightly glass of wine methinks….?)

1.  Life Factory:  $29.95 for 250 ml.  Hip brand with a sturdy reputation and fun style.  These glass bottles were my favourite with Matilda.  (see her below).  With a range of tops to suit different stages, even adults get to join in the fun.  Buy here.

2. Dr Brown:  $36.95 for a two pack 240 ml.  With their Internal Vent System for vacuum free feeding they help to reduce feeding problems like colic. The protective sleeve is purchased separately.

3. Avent:  $17.99 for 120ml bottle.  With their own teat style, shaped like a breast these bottles are compatible with other Avent, handles and accessories.

4. Cherub Baby:  $14.95 for 150ml.  An Australian company offering a cheaper option, Cherub Baby make bottles plus some other really clever feeding products.  While the bottles come with a slightly thinner silicone sleeve than the Life Factory ones, they’re great if you’re on a budget.  I didn’t use the teats that came with these ones, instead using the leftover Life Factory ones which lasted a little longer.  You can also get the funky colour change sleeves to give you a rough guide of the milk temperature.

Some tips:

– Glass bottles are made of high tempered glass to make them tough and able to withstand extremely hot temperatures.

– Glass is heavier so if you’ve gotten to the stage where baby is holding their own bottle, plastic will be lighter and easier.

– Like plastic bottles, the teats come with different sized holes for flow and a lot are interchangeable.
So you can mix the bottle and teat you prefer.

– A Silicone or fabric sleeve will protect the bottle from little knocks and make it more grippy for little hands.
